The Diabetes, Obesity, and Specialties Medical Center (CEMDOE) opened its doors on April 27, 2021, becoming a milestone in healthcare in the Dominican Republic.
Originally founded with the purpose of providing a comprehensive response to the growing issue of diabetes and associated chronic diseases, CEMDOE has evolved into a leading medical center with over 50 medical specialties. It addresses not only diabetes but also a wide range of health conditions with an innovative, human, and multidisciplinary approach.
Mariela Vicini
Our Beginning
The idea of CEMDOE was conceived by Mariela Vicini and the doctor Pedro Mena, who identified the need to create a specialized center for the treatment of diabetes. For years, Mrs. Vicini and Dr. Mena witnessed the severe consequences of this disease, particularly the high number of amputations, and committed themselves to offering a solution that would address not only the complications but also education and prevention, key aspects in the fight against this condition.
They both embarked on an exhaustive research process, traveling to cities such as Medellín, Buenos Aires, Paris, Hannover, Madrid, and Barcelona, with the goal of learning about the best healthcare models in the world. This search allowed them to identify best practices to adapt to the needs of the Dominican Republic's healthcare system.
The result of this effort is CEMDOE, a healthcare center that, while initially focused on diabetes, has significantly expanded its range of medical services, offering solutions in multiple specialized areas with the highest national and international standards in healthcare.
Since its opening, CEMDOE has worked tirelessly to improve the quality of life of its patients, offering a comprehensive approach that ranges from preventive education to highly specialized care. Its mission is to be a pillar in the Dominican healthcare system, providing hope and support to those facing not only diabetes but also a wide range of medical conditions.
